Ohio Star Theater offers family-friendly shows

November 16, 2017
MOV Parent

For the past five years, audiences flocked to the Ohio Star Theater (located within the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek) to enjoy Broadway-caliber performances in an intimate, in-the-round venue. The wholesome, Amish-themed story musicals were a delight for guests looking an ideal alternative to mainstream entertainment while paying respect to Amish culture.

The shows regularly sold out, leaving some visitors with a missed opportunity to enjoy a performance.

The success of the shows prompted the Dutchman Hospitality team of owners to build a large, stand-alone, state-of-the-art theater on the same campus as the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek and Dutch Valley Restaurant.

After much thought and planning and five theater seasons inside the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek - construction began on a new Ohio Star Theater at Dutch Valley last year and the theater hosted its first performance in April 2017.

The size of the new seating area has created the perfect venue for musical acts and concerts. Speaking engagements and comedic performances round out the traditional musical-style, Broadway-level shows the theater has become known for.

A perfect way to enhance your visit to the Dutch Valley Sugarcreek campus, the new Ohio Star Theater joins Dutch Valley Restaurant, Dutch Valley Market, Dutch Valley Gifts & Boutique, and the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek - all in one convenient location. Packages for accommodations and theater tickets are available.

Musical guests share a faith-based message, with gospel and contemporary Christian artists planned. Shows each year include returning favorites along with inspiring and entertaining new works designed to keep guests both entertained and engaged.

Tickets can be purchased at the box Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or later on show days, online at OhioStarTheater.com or by phone at 855-344-7547.

Rounding out 2017 the schedule will be "Our Christmas Dinner." Find out what happens when Christmas plans are interrupted by surprise guests and a raging snowstorm. Christmas carols and original songs will delight people of all ages.

This production is a limited engagement, running Thursday, Nov. 9, through Saturday, Dec. 16.

Celebrate the Season

Celebrate the reason for the season, Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 5 and 6, by delighting in the musical ministry of vocal artist Steve Green. In addition to his renditions of everyone's favorite Christmas classics, he'll be joined on stage by a local choir. He is a Grammy-nominated artist with 18 number one songs and seven Dove Awards.

Party With a Purpose

On Saturday, Dec. 30, ring in the New Year with Dove Award-winning and Grammy-nominated artists Karen Peck and New River. Peck's inspiring soprano voice backed by her southern gospel band is certain to warm the heart as we bid farewell to 2017. Also enjoy comedy sensation John Crist, the next big thing in standup comedy.

The majority of Crist's jokes center around the topic of Christian subculture. Choose from a 1 p.m. matinee or a 9 p.m. show.

2018 Sneak Peek

The 2018 Ohio Star Theater season provides a wealth of wholesome entertainment options from which to choose. Making their return, "Home Game" runs from May until June, and "Half-Stitched the Musical" is presented July through September 2018.

New to the stage in 2018 will be "Stolen," September through November, and "Christmas in Paradise," November through December, 2018.

These theater productions are joined by an engaging lineup of musical performances from groups like the Kingsmen Quartet (Saturday, Jan. 27), Steve and Annie Chapman, (Thursday and Friday, Feb. 9 and 10) Dixie Melody Boys (Saturday, Feb. 17), Phillips, Craig and Dean (Saturday, March 10), The Hoppers (Saturday, March 24), LeFevre Quartet (Wednesday, April 4) and The Martins (Saturday, April 14).
